Over the next week (and some), I’ll be sharing with you a series of poems I wrote that means a lot to me. The reason for this poetic affection is that it’s a series about my two favorite Atlantic islands: Puerto Rico & Ireland. I titled the series “princess taína & prince connell’s wild atlantic love”. Through these fictional characters (Princess Taína & Prince Connell), I hope to say something about love, Puerto Rico, and Ireland, among other themes. It was a delight to create this micro-mythology based on actual geographical places and cultural sites.
In order to assist your understanding of the poems and mythology, I’ll be posting (separately) a Terms post for this series. This will be my next post, and the poems will follow one at a time.
There is a Spanish language version of this series that I will also share: “el amor feroz y atlántico de la princesa taína y el príncipe Connell”. It’s not a translation, it’s a version. Its poetic plot resembles the English version (loosely). To be fair, I’ll alternate between the English and Spanish versions when posting.
I hope you enjoy reading this series as much as I enjoyed writing it.
