“Surely the fate of human beings is like that of the animals; the same fate awaits them both… All have the same breath; humans have no advantage over animals… All go to the same place… Who knows if the human spirit rises upward and if the spirit of the animal goes down into the earth?” −Ecclesiastes 3:19-21
requiem for a snowflake
by Àm Acevedo
winter winds cradled your descent
falling whispers sang goodbye
the unnecessary wasn’t said.
who would’ve thought that snowflakes die?
who could’ve known they close their eyes in bed?
a fate i had no power to prevent.
december snowflake,
you melted on arrival
and vanished me to the forgotten lake
of memories without hope of your survival.
p.s.
i won’t forget you –ever– in my abyss of heartache.
